Can I Afford a New Boat? Better Yet, Can I Afford NOT to Get One?

By Kevin D Browne

Kevin D BrowneLevel: PlatinumAfter 19 years on Madison Ave as a Senior Copywriter, I have become a keyword specialist like no other. I now show web owners how ... ...

Okay...can I afford a new boat yes or no?

I know that my entire adult life, I have leaned toward the answer to that one being a solid as a rock 'no.'

I mean this is a boat we're talking about. Can I really afford a boat?

Here's the surprising answer that I was NOT ready for. YES.

The inflatable boating world has seen some startling advances in the past several years. Amazing new designs, outstanding materials (both hard and soft), incredible new levels of durability and warranties that (if you look for them diligently enough) can go up a full 5 years!

Now here's comes the bing on the cherry...because there are now ways for you to finance a new boat for 90 days interest free! That's right, the inflatable boating world has left no prisoners with this one! Now you can get financing on a gorgeous new inflatable boat and pay nothing for the first 90 days!

That's three months of you in your new boat without worrying about even the small cost that an inflatable sets you back!

That's three months of taking the kids to the best fishing spots without having to worry about dollar number one.

That's 90 full days of uninterrupted boat ownership without a credit card being pulled out or a check being written!

Immediately upon hearing this I realized that for the first time the answer to can I afford a new boat had changed...BIG TIME! No longer did it have to stay out of reach, sneering at me. Suddenly it was a step away! And to be really honest, I could not believe how close!

Now, not only CAN I afford a new boat, I almost, with this new financing for new inflatable boats option, not afford to get one. The memories created, the laughter shared, the sting of the water as we roar across the top of the icy lake...that's what I never thought I would have at my disposal.

Can I afford a new boat? Most definitely. And I can afford that new boat because of all of the amazing things that have recently happened in the inflatable boating business.

Some inflatable boats are still made from a rubber-based fabric called Hypalon. While this is still a very good material, its major downfall is that it can only be joined by gluing, done manually. Problems including poor bonds, delamination of seams or fabric can still affect these glued fabrics. Today, many inflatables are manufactured from polyurethane fabrics, although larger inflatables (particularly RIBs used for rescue or military purposes) use hypalon because thicker hypalon fabrics are still considered to be stronger and more durable than polyurethane. There are some hypalon fabrics that are "2-ply" or a double unit made up of hypalon/weave/hypalon/weave/hypalon and are used for extreme situations including bumper padding, bow skirts, anti-chafe patches and similar applications.

As security of personal watercraft is of prime importance all the main manufacturers who import jetskis into the UK, automatically protect them with the Datatag system. This is a very sophisticated identification scheme which uses both visible registration numbers and electronic tags to protect the craft. Many insurers insist on the jetski being protected and offer premium discounts for doing so.

How do I find a repair facility for my inflatable boat? Go to a Supplier's Index and search for the listing of the manufacturer of your boat. Click there to go to their website and locate the "dealer list" to search for a dealer/repair facility in your area. If brand loyalty is not an issue, or your brand has no dealer in your area, some of the bigger manufacturers have many dealers to choose from as most dealers will repair any brand of inflatable.

Stitch-It Awl, Sail repair tool - and other uses on sailing yachts.

Used a similar tool many years ago - it was a very useful , especially when repairing a genoa on my sailing yacht where the clew's grommet/cringle had pulled out - this one looks similar. Seems expensive but I guess if it is strongly built it and because it might have an easy life, it should last the life of your boat. Over time it could turn out to save a lot of journeys to the sailmaker.
